Two rooms created for focused learning
The Kanani Conference Rooms are adjacent seminar spaces in the John B. Macdonald Building at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry.
Their story is practical before it is commemorative. Students needed better places to study together, compare cases and use shared displays. Renovating former clinic space created that opportunity.
Why the rooms were created
UBC Dentistry's 2011 feature described an old clinical area in the John B. Macdonald Building that had become unused and difficult to renovate. The redevelopment produced small-group seminar rooms, flexible study space and a computer learning centre.
What made the rooms valuable
The rooms gave student groups a quieter setting for case discussion. Large monitors helped everyone look at the same material, while matching technology in both rooms supported a consistent learning experience.
What this website does
This site preserves the published history, presents the family and educational context, gathers available photographs and gives visitors a clear route to official UBC information.
